As you make plans to travel for Thanksgiving or Winter Breaks, or any upcoming international travel we urge you to take into account all COVID-19 health and safety protocols from GW, the District and federal governments, and your home country. Guidance, policies and regulations have been updated in many areas since the start of the fall semester.
The university’s travel guidance remains in effect for Thanksgiving and winter break and through to the start of the spring 2022 semester. If these protocols should change, they will be communicated to the campus community.
A new federal policy has been announced for international travel. Starting Nov. 8, non-U.S. citizens will be required to be fully vaccinated with an FDA- or WHO-approved vaccine in order to gain entry into the United States per federal guidelines. Please note: This means that if you were approved for a religious or medical exemption to GW’s vaccine requirement and remain unvaccinated with an FDA- or WHO-approved vaccine, you will not be allowed to re-enter the United States if you depart the country. You may need to reconsider your travel plans and/or vaccination status based on this new mandate.
OTHER TRAVEL REMINDERS:
If you are fully vaccinated:
Following domestic travel, you are strongly encouraged to schedule a COVID-19 test at a GW testing center within 3-5 days after travel. You are advised to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days after travel. Travel quarantine is not required upon returning to campus.
Following international travel, a COVID-19 test is required at your departure location. You are required to test again 3-5 days after travel and self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days. Travel quarantine is not required upon returning to campus.
If you have an exemption to GW’s vaccine requirement and are unvaccinated:
According to D.C. policy, if you travel outside the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia and are unvaccinated, you must quarantine on your return. Indicate the travel on your daily survey. This will place your account into travel quarantine. Upon return, follow GW’s travel quarantine guidelines for unvaccinated individuals.
Thank you for your continued cooperation in doing your part to help keep you and the community healthy and well.
