Spring Break COVID-19 Testing, Travel Reminders

March 07, 2022

As many of you prepare for the university’s spring break, March 14-18, please read below for information on COVID-19 testing and travel quarantine requirements.

Although COVID cases have declined on campus and the D.C. region, we anticipate some increase in cases after spring break travel. As with other breaks, we are recommending a return to campus test for anyone who travels out of the D.C. area (see below). After spring break, we will closely evaluate all of our COVID-19 metrics with the hope to relax some of our campus public health measures.

COVID-19 Testing

If you require a COVID-19 test prior to travel, you should schedule your test 48-72 hours in advance of your trip.

If your next test due date falls over the spring break period, you should make an appointment to test early to maintain your compliance. If you fall out of compliance during this period, we recommend that you schedule your test for the first day you return to campus.

Travel Reminders

As a reminder, if you have an exemption to GW’s COVID-19 vaccine and booster requirement and are not up-to-date on your vaccinations, you are required to quarantine following travel outside of the D.C.-region. You must report any domestic or international travel outside of D.C., Maryland or Virginia in your daily symptom screener. Upon returning to the District, per D.C. Health guidance, you must follow the protocol for travel quarantine.

For those who are up-to-date on their vaccinations (i.e., fully vaccinated and boosted), you are strongly encouraged to schedule a COVID-19 test at a GW testing center within 2-3 days after travel and self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days after travel. Travel quarantine is not required.

Following international travel, please be mindful of required testing before travel to the United States.

If you have questions about whether you should travel, please see the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidance.
